LEAD Conference 2019

My contributions to the success of the event

  • Interact with attendees to receive immediate feedback of the event

  • Help set up and clean up of event

  • Facilitate conversation and dialogue within workshops throughout the day

  • Make sure all events on itinerary was on schedule. If not, then making sure that things are extended or cut short to fall back on schedule

Purpose of the Event

To strengthening the campus identity and development of Asian, Pacific Islander, Desi American (APIDA) students on campus.

To support and advocate for the APIDA community through an opportunity for APIDA students to come together to enhance their collegiate experience by fostering identity growth and leadership development.
To empower and unite APIDA students to create social change by bridging the identity and leadership gap often seen in the APIDA community.
Focus on helping students understand the importance of connecting their personal values (values-based leadership) to create societal change (social change model) while instilling confidence as an APIDA student leader.

Reflection and Takeaway

Overall, the event was a success and very well organized considering the short time our team had to plan the event. I think outcome in regards to attendance could have been better due to marketing. In reflection of this event, I think all of the officers could have shared about the event more to give more exposure.

In regards to the itinerary and following the schedule, our team did the best they could because some guest speakers were late. By ending things shortly and extending a few workshops, we were able to fall back on schedule and end at the intended time. All of the speakers and workshops of the event really pertained to the purpose of the conference.

A few things to take away from a large-scale event like this is to always maintain communication with all other team members. During the event, I always had my walky-talky on so that I can stay updated with the rest of the team on what is happening and what I need to do if there was a slight problem.

Hosting this event on a Sunday was also inevitable because the weekday was during school time and the event is still fairly new to the university. Hopefully, I will be able to help extend the conference to more than one day to make it into a better conference in the future. I will be passing on my knowledge and experience to future APC officers.
